Brighton’s forgotten man Jim McNulty today goes in for an operation on his damaged ankle which will rule him out for the rest of the season.

The unlucky left back has been dogged by injury during his Brighton career. He has suffered numerous ankle troubles, but nothing as bad as the injury that resulted in the loss of his kidney during Brighton’s 4-0 defeat by Crewe at Withdean.

He impressed during his first few weeks at the Albion, exciting the Brighton fans with his surges forward, but failed to gain full fitness after his horrific injury. He was loaned out to Championship side Scunthorpe United, where he suffered a reoccurrence of his ankle trouble. Today’s operation on his left ankle will rule him out for the rest of this season, although he is still contracted until the end of next season.

The £150,000 signing from Stockport County still expresses a desire to stay with The Albion for the remainder of his contract, although he has found it hard to move above Marcos Painter in the pecking order at left back.
