One bookmaker has Brighton as the favourite destination for Michael Owen’s next club. Could it be true?

He set the Premier League alight, he set World Cup 1998 alive, and now the injury prone, former England striker, Michael Owen is being linked with a move to The AMEX in the summer.

It seems about as likely as Gary Hart being awarded with another year’s contract just so he can play at The AMEX, but stranger things have happened in the world of Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to one book maker, Owen is just 2/1 to sign for Brighton, ahead of teams like Cardiff, Leicester and Liverpool

Michael Owen has been at the top the game for a decade, so why would he drop into The Championship with Brighton, who won’t give their top goal scorer, Glenn Murray the pay rise he is after to stay at the club past the end of next month.

If rumours are to go by, Michael Owen will be lining up for the Albion alongside Emile Heskey, Kevin Phillips and David Beckham in a flash back to the glory days of Championship Manager 03/04.

Brighton have just one striker contracted next season, so a striker or 2 is definitely on the cards. But would an Ashley Barnes partnership along side a rarely fit, 30 year old Michael Owen partnership work at Championship level? It would take a lot of work, but never say never.

Owen would be the biggest coup at the club since Bobby Smith back in days of black and white TV, or should that be Robbie Savage?

It seems most fans would love him at Brighton based on the glory of at least 5 years ago, but his reputation seems to have proceeded him a bit to generate the kind of interest amungst fans.

From Manchetser United on mega money, to Brighton? The silly season has well and truly begun!
