With reports that Brighton had tested Motherwell’s resolve with a speculated offer for Marvin Johnson, their manager Mark McGhee has said there has been no contact from us.

Reports circulated that we had made a £500,000 offer for the striker who has four goals in five games so far this season for them, but the Scotsman have been speaking with McGhee and he said there hasn’t been any approach from us.

Our former gaffer explained.

‘I was at Brighton`s game with Lazio last week and I spoke to their chairman and Paul Winstanley, and neither of them mentioned Marvin Johnson to me. So it`s all speculation. I know these guys very, very well and I can assure you they would speak to me. Marvin has got to deal with the speculation, we`ve got to deal with it too. Until somebody makes an offer then the speculation`s not really worth the paper it`s written on.’

Ends that speculation for now then doesn’t it.
