Nathan Jones was strongly linked with Plymouth but the Brighton coach has missed out to former Ross County manager Derek Adams with him announced as the manager of the League 2 side in succession to John Sheridan.

I can’t say I’m disappointed, I obviously feel for Jones as I’ve little doubt he’ll make a good manager in his own right some day – and quite possible here, as I wouldn’t want the Welshman to leave the Amex Stadium.

For the time being at least we retain his services.

Such is his standing he’s been doing some coaching work with the England U21 side recently with him retaining a place on the coaching staff under several managers since our former player returned to the club a few years back.

Reports in the Argus say that sources in Devon have informed them that Jones was a seriously strong option and had impressed at Home Park, but it seems that Adams’ greater experience saw him get the nod.

Plymouth’s loss is our continued gain I’d say!
