Sebastien Pocognoli has spoken of his return to the pitch against Leeds United on Friday evening and his delight at seeing the game end with all three points.
Hosting Leeds at the Amex Stadium for the game in front of the Sky cameras penalty efforts from Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed gave us all three points but for the Belgian international it was his second start in the Championship since coming to the club on loan from West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking to the Official Site Pocognoli talked of his delight at getting back on to the pitch having been patient for his chance.
‘I`m constantly training well and always ready to make an appearance. It was the perfect game for me to start against a good team at home on Friday night. I really enjoyed it and I just want a run in the team, because I know I can do much better. I`d like to play more but the season is very long and there is a big achievement in front of us to aim for, so let`s hope we do it.’
Looking more at the game itself, he went on to talk about how the match turned when Phillips was sent off for them and we got the subsequent penalty that Murray stuck in the back of the net.
‘We started well, were aggressive on the ball and had the luck of a penalty and a red card for them. That meant it wasn`t easy for them to play with ten men against us. That was key, because it`s not always easy to have one upfront and play ten against 11. We did a good job and it`s an important game for us now on Tuesday. If we go there and bring home three points, it will be perfect.’
With the result putting Brighton top until Saturday’s fixtures, the player knew that would have been a boost for everybody but obviously it’s way too early to get carried away as there’s plenty of football left to be played so Brighton just have to do their best to keep this run going.
‘It`s a long season and there are many games to go. The team won and kept a clean sheet, which is the most important thing. We want to keep going after this game and do better than last season. We have to learn from that and do better.’
