Brighton missed the chance to, you would think, to move a huge step towards securing our Championship status on Tuesday – and the chance to move above our opponents, when Reading beat us two-one at the Madejski Stadium.

We’re still a healthy nine-points clear of the third and final relegation spot but Reading’s win saw them edge 13-ponts clear themselves and opened up a four-point gap on us when we could have moved above them.

After Reading had decent chances through Cooper and Robson-Kanu we really should have given ourselves the chance to put ourselves into a position to secure a rare away win but Halford, against a former side, didn’t do enough with his header.

That miss, coupled with a poor Stockdale clearance, cost us as Reading went into a half time lead. Akpan collected the poor clearance from our ‘keeper to set up Mackie (24) who powered home from the edge of the area.

When Cooper brought down Ledesma early in the second half we had a penalty, which O’Grady (53) stepped up to take and scored his first league goal for us to make it one-one, Reading were perhaps made to pay for missed chances!

Parity wasn’t the case for long though with Mackie (56) bettering his first half effort as he found the net from 25-yards just three minutes later! Blackman could have added more goals but two-one was enough for Reading.

Following this defeat we still need to find our MotM, but who was this? Vote in the poll to your right….
