Defender Liam Rosenior has been giving his thoughts following Brighton’s loss to Leeds United at the weekend.
Travelling to Elland Road for the game, Brighton came home having suffered a two nil defeat and whilst urging his colleagues to bounce back quickly and put the result behind them, he did acknowledge the first goal had been key to the final result.
Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference following the loss, he explained.
‘It was an even game and it was about whoever got that first goal. It was a fantastic header from Chris Wood, and when you`ve got confidence like that, those chances tend to go in. In the first half, there wasn`t much goalmouth action from either side, which you`re happy with as the away team. You know the game`s going to open up, and if we had taken our chances, it could have been different.’
With both goals coming in the second period, he went on to say.
‘We`re frustrated because we didn`t win the game ourselves. We`re concentrating on ourselves and not concentrating on what any other team does. The game`s gone now. We`ve got two weeks to rest, recuperate and go again. We`re still in a fantastic position to do what we want to do.’
Their second on the day was of course a penalty award fouling loanee Fikayo Tomori being adjudged to have committed the foul.
‘Fikayo, who I thought was absolutely fantastic, acquitted himself really well, especially being a young lad coming into a very tough atmosphere. No blame goes to him. We win as a team and lose as a team. We`ll now move on and come back after the international break.’
Rosenior continued in his praise.
‘He was outstanding. We always talk about full-backs going forward, but for a 19-year-old to come here and defend the way he did in one-v-one situations, he`s got a fantastic future. We`re going to need him this season. With Bruno being out, he came in and did really well, and he`s another player that will help us on our way to where we want to be.’
With Blackburn Rovers next up when football returns following the March international break, Rosenior knew it was important we bounced back in that tie but equally we had to remain calm and roll with the ups and down that will come between now and the end of the campaign.
‘We`d rather have another game tonight, it`s frustrating. But you can`t get too excited when you win and you can`t get too down when you lose. It`s about accumulating points. We learnt a lot from last season and we`re going to take that into the run-in. We won`t get too carried away with what other teams do, it`s about what we do. It`s about our performance levels and to be honest, in terms of performance levels, I don`t think we were too far off the mark.’
