Brighton have completed the permanent signing of Steve Sidwell following his release by Stoke, which was confirmed (on both counts) this week.

Sidwell was signed by Chris Hughton in January ending the season on loan with Brighton going onto make 19 appearances, which was almost as many as he had managed with Stoke in his two-years with the club.

After the arrival of the vastly experienced former Fulham midfielder, on a one-year contract, was confirmed Hughton commented.

‘He knows exactly what the Championship is all about and what it takes to get promoted. He was excellent for us in the run-in, and was a key figure on and off the pitch as one of the senior members of the squad.’

The 33-year-old was limited to just four-matches at Stoke last season ending his two-year stay at the Britannia Stadium with him confirmed as being on the released list when the Premier League side revealed the retained list.

His arrival at Albion will fully kick in from 1st July.
