Three games left and three points needs to secure the Championship title, surely Brighton will manage this to see off the threat of Newcastle? Albion could achieve this at Norwich on Friday.
With priority number one of securing a place in the Premier League achieved the Albion focus has now shifted towards being confirmed with the kudos of going up as champions.
Steve Sidwell isn’t taking anything for granted and insists there isn’t going to be any resting on laurels as going up as league winners is what Brighton want, a feeling he’s felt before. Sidwell also pointed to the fact the ‘league table doesn’t lie’ so Albion are being promoted because we deserve it.
He told the Official Website: ‘We`re not going to rest on our laurels and say ‘that`s it, we`re promoted now`, we want to win the league and that goes for every member in that changing room. I`ve been lucky enough to lift the trophy before and it`s a great feeling. Destiny awaits, we`ve got a couple of games to clinch the title and that`s what we want to achieve. The league table doesn`t lie, we deserve to be where we are. To a man, we`ve done this together and it`s fully deserved.’
The experienced midfielder, Sidwell will prefer to be known as that as opposed to ‘veteran’, has not only made 34 appearances for Brighton this season he was the winner of the EFL’s Mitre Goal of the Year award – something else for him to celebrate.
Much of the Brighton achievements this season wouldn’t have been possible without Chris Hughton though with Sidwell heaping praise upon the Albion boss.
Sidwell said: ‘You talk to anyone in the game, they`ve all got great things to say about him [Chris Hughton]. He`s a well-respected man in the footballing world and fully deserves everything that he`s got.’
