Brighton’s promotion bid was dealt enough of a blow by a heavy defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday but this also came at the cost of injury to Shane Duffy. A foot injury is set to keep him out for at least six weeks.

Duffy was forced off late in the Nottingham Forest defeat with the Irishman suffering a fractured metatarsal. This is likely to require surgery that will take place in the next 24 hours or so.

The international break later in the month will absorb some of Duffy’s downtime with the Republic of Ireland international missing the World Cup qualifier with Wales and friendly with Iceland to follow.

A heart issue with Connor Goldson will keep him out for the remainder of the season – at least – with Gaetan Bong and Sebastien Pocognoli also sidelined. Liam Rosenior did make his return against Forest though after six months out.

Chuba Akpom’s knee problem forced the striker to miss the 3-0 defeat at the City Ground with the extent of the Arsenal loanee’s setback not yet known.
