Dale Stephens, who made his return from a long-term injury recently, hadn’t started a game for Brighton in pushing on for a year until Saturday when he was named in Chris Hughton’s starting XI against Wolves.

Click Here to watch highlights of that one-one draw.

This starting return, as he told the Official Website, came with something of mixed feelings for the midfielder after his first start in close to 11-months. Not only did he start the game he also played the full 90-minutes for the first time since April last year!

He’s now looking for more minutes, ideally against Millwall on Tuesday.

‘I’ve been out a long time so I was really happy to come off the bench and get half an hour against Derby and I’m delighted to play 90 minutes against Wolves; hopefully I’ll play many more and I will see if I can play a part on Tuesday.’

Stephens was called upon to play on the left wing, obviously an unfamiliar position, but he is happy to do what’s best for the team and had done this before at Charlton so it’s not something he hasn’t done before. If it means that he plays he’ll ‘play anywhere.’

The result wasn’t as pleasing for him mind with him ‘frustrated’ with the goal that we conceded but paid tribute to David Stockdale despite his error for the goal, focusing more on the positives that our ‘keeper managed in the draw, which earned us this point.

Millwall, like ourselves, are struggling at the wrong end of the table but they’re in the bottom three and we go into this with confidence of getting a result.

‘We are confident going into the next game. Millwall are in the same situation as we are; we’ve got to play a couple of teams that are in and around us and we’ll be looking for maximum points.’

Definitely a team player isn’t he, Stephens will play wherever if it gives him minutes on the pitch but he’ll also do a job where he’s asked to play. It’ll be interesting to see if Hughton does start him again on Tuesday against Millwall though?

I wouldn’t be surprised if he started on the bench? If he did start I don’t think we’ll be seeing him play another 90-minutes!
