It’s being reported tonight that the red card appeal launched by Brighton over the harsh straight red card shown to Dale Stephens in the game against Middlesbrough has failed.

The 26 year old was sent off by the match day referee despite winning the ball and it being Gaston Ramirez’s follow through that caused contact.

With Mike Dean reaching for a yellow before being swayed by something or someone in the game with gash Ramirez got, Brighton appealed and the BBC are reporting that the Football League have dismissed the claim of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment.

It means Stephens will miss both Semi Final games of the Championship Play Offs against Sheffield Wednesday, and if we reach the final, the match at Wembley.

Alternatively, he’ll miss the first game of the 2016/17 Championship season.
