Transfer Fee Will Probably Be Prohibitive For Brighton – Iranian Winger Targeted

|

I must admit this is a completely new name for me, I certainly don’t remember Alireza Jahanbakhsh being talked of last January or even last summer, to be honest.

In any event, the Argus reported yesterday that we have renewed our interest in the 24-year-old AZ Alkmaar winger and a decision is expected on his future shortly following Iran’s involvement in this summer’s World Cup now being over.

They were knocked out at the group stage of the competition in Russia despite achieving a last-gasp draw with Portugal, having impressed many with their determination albeit infuriating many with the play acting – Portugal can hardly complain on that front with Pepe going for a solo bid on an Oscar and Golden Globe double every time he takes to the pitch.

As for Jahanbakhash, not knowing the speculation I have no idea if his performance stood out or not, but he was the top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie last season with 21 goals in 33 league games. His record for Alkmaar following his arrival at the club back in August 2015 is 37 goals in 87 starting appearances and eight substitute showings. Prior to his time with them, he played for NEC Nijmegan.

His agent told the Argus that numerous clubs were interested in the player, although no concrete offers had yet been made. But for now his client was resting up before assessing his future.

The Argus also stated that being under contract until 2020, Alkmaar would be looking for a fee in the region of £22million as they capitalise on his success in front of goal last season – and that could ultimately scupper our interest.

We’ll have to see what happens.
