Manager Chris Hughton was left disappointed on Saturday following Brighton’s performance against Nottingham Forest.
Heading to the City Ground to face off against the side, Brighton were looking for a reaction to the disappointing loss to Newcastle United in our last game, but that didn’t come to pass with a three nil defeat on the day.
Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, a gutted gaffer knew it had been a very frustrating day, but the positive if any was that it was uncharacteristic from the side so hopefully just an off day.
‘We needed to show some more energy earlier in the game, before they got their first goal. Generally in the games where we`re not at our best, we can get better in that second half and show a performance that gives us a chance of winning the game.’
Hughton went on to say that with Forest clearly getting a slice of luck in the second period with Britt Assombalonga’s offside goal, it was just a day that turned against us – especially as the stats show that Forest scored with each of their attempts on target.
His main disappointment though was that we still had time to get back into the match but we didn’t rally as he expected us to.
‘I`ve just seen it again and it looks like he`s offside. At the time, I knew that all players were protesting about it looking to go to the linesman, but I didn`t know at the time. Having seen it again, it looks like he was offside. That first goal changes the game, but we needed to be better after that and we needed to better on the ball. We got into some really good positions and sometimes it`s not your day in front of goal.’
He ended by saying.
‘It certainly wasn`t through lack of effort in that last period, but it was probably too little too late.’
