Brighton will once again have the chance to strike first in the battle for the Championship leadership. Albion travel to Blackburn knowing a win will put the pressure back on Newcastle, who aren’t in action until Wednesday. Rovers will seek a reaction to a derby defeat at the weekend.
After a heavy defeat at Newcastle on Saturday Birmingham will seek a swift reaction at St Andrew’s. The Blues will look for a win that could take them back into the top six against struggling Ipswich, down in 17th.
Bristol City will also look to react to a weekend defeat when they host Brentford. However, the Bees head to Ashton Gate having recorded a much needed win on Saturday to end a run of five defeats.
After the defeat to Brentford on Saturday Burton entertain promotion chasing Huddersfield just a couple of points above the bottom three. Town’s first win in five at the weekend took them back up to 4th with this a place they’ll consolidate with another three points.
Cardiff and Wolves meet in a potential relegation six pointer. The Bluebirds return to the Cardiff City Stadium in need of the points to climb out of the bottom three. A win would take them above Wolves, who drew 4-4 with Fulham on Saturday.
In the end, as they were 4-3 down in added time, a point at Molineux was welcomed by Fulham but they’ll expect more against struggling Rotherham on Tuesday. The Millers recorded a rare win on Saturday though but they need plenty more to close the 10 points gap to safety.
Leeds hold the fourth and final play-off place at the moment and they look to react to the Friday night defeat against Brighton. The Whites play host to fellow promotion chasers Reading with the 3rd placed Royals having a chance to close to within three points of Newcastle.
Should Aston Villa inflict a seventh defeat in the last eight games on Norwich it will further dent the Canaries play-off hopes – it’ll also boost Villa’s as they seek to close the four points gap to the top six.
Also chasing play-off places are Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley, they’ll meet at Hillsborough in this derby. A Wednesday win should take them back into the top six with the Tykes just outside if they could claim all three points.
Wednesday will see Nottingham Forest look to bounce back from a heavy derby defeat on Sunday. However, Preston travel to the City Ground having record a derby win of their own against rivals Blackburn.
QPR go into this round of games just three points ahead of the bottom three. By the time the R’s play this gap could have narrowed? They’ll seek to end a three game losing run against a Derby side that go to Loftus Road having won six in a row, including the derby with Forest.
The Wigan against Newcastle game is one both sides want the points from for differing reasons. The Latics remain in the bottom three but know a win could take them out! Whereas the Toon might have lost top spot to Brighton by the time this game at the DW Stadium arrives.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
