Brighton’s Championship season got underway with a win at the Amex Stadium against Nottingham Forest on Friday night.

Some have Albion down as relegation contenders others, Hughton included of course, will have other ideas with Albion securing this opening night, live in front of the Sky Sports cameras, one-nil win against Freedman’s side.

A first opening day win since 2011/12 was secured by Albion thanks to LuaLua’s early goal in the second half, with both sides denied by the post in the first half before this.

When the Seagulls had struggled to clear some dangerous Forest captain Lansbury ended up being brought down 30-yards from goal for a freekick. Lansbury took this himself with his 30-yard effort beating Stockdale hipping the outside of the post and going wide.

The woodwork then denied Albion with LuaLua’s pass to Kayal driving a low effort past de Vries in the Forest goal but his 20-yard strike came back off the foot of the post with a March cross then drawing a fine save from the Reds ‘keeper to turn away a header from debutant Hemed.

De Vries wasn’t keeping out LuaLua (50) though. March passed to the winger who went into the area with his cross shot finding the bottom corner of de Vries net, with his acrobatic celebration following!

Nottingham Forest couldn’t strike back with Albion, scrambling away a long throw in quickly taken that caused the main problems, doing enough to open up with a win.
