The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Brighton’s win – with Newcastle not playing until Monday – took them back to the top of the Championship. Wigan, Blackburn and Rotherham – heavily beaten – remain in the bottom three.

Brighton’s 2-0 win over Barnsley not only secured three points it also took Albion back to the top of the Championship ahead of Newcastle, who aren’t in action until Monday. The Tykes first defeat in four saw their play-off hopes take a blow.
Things are going from bad to worse for Birmingham with another defeat – a heavy one at that – inflicted on QPR at St Andrew’s when the R’s ran out 4-1 winners.
A run of loss-wins continued for Burton with a 2-1 win over Norwich opening up a four point gap between them and the relegation zone. The Canaries’ first defeat in seven meant they dropped seven points off the top six.
A third straight Cardiff win – a fourth in five – was collected by the Bluebirds when they thrashed Rotherham 5-0 to sit midtable. The Millers’ eighth defeat in 10 leave them rock bottom and 15 points from safety – the same amount of points keep Neil Warnock’s side clear of trouble.
Ipswich extended their unbeaten run to four with a 1-1 draw – a third in this run – against Leeds. The Whites’ outside hopes of finishing in automatic promotion place took a knock with this draw at Portman Road.
A third successive defeat was suffered by Nottingham Forest when promotion chasing Sheffield Wednesday went away from the City Ground with a 2-1 win. This fourth straight win – extending the unbeaten run to five – opened up a seven point lead for the 6th placed side over the play-off chasing pack.
Wigan missed the chance to move out of the bottom three after a 0-0 draw with Preston. This point against the Latics did extend North End’s unbeaten run to four but with the gap between them and the top six up to nine points a play-off place is looking more uncertain.
