The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played during midweek.
Newcastle’s lead was cut after they drew and Brighton won. Rotherham are cut adrift but the Millers aside the battle is on with Wigan and Bristol City currently making up the bottom three.

Reading and Newcastle shared the points in a 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium. The Magpies saw their lead cut to three points as a result with the Royals remaining well set for the play-offs.
A seventh defeat in nine games was suffered by Birmingham – with Gianfranco Zola winning just two of his 17 games – against relegation threatened Wigan. This 1-0 victory for the Latics at St Andrew’s took them to within two points of safety.
Tony Mowbray’s unbeaten start to his spell as Blackburn boss continued when an added time equaliser secured a 1-1 draw with Cardiff. Rovers remain in 20th two points clear of the bottom three. The Bluebirds – without a win in three after a hat trick of them before that – dropped to 13th.
Bristol City – who confirmed the departure of coach John Pemberton ahead of the game – rescued a late point in a 1-1 draw with Norwich. The Robins’ seventh game without a win kept them in the relegation zone a point behind Wolves. The Canaries have failed to win in five with the play-offs nine points away.
The points were shared when Derby and Preston drew 1-1 at the iPro Stadium. The Rams would have moved above North End but for an added time equaliser that kept them in ninth nine points off the top six.
Fulham’s unbeaten run was extended to six with a dramatic added time equaliser securing a 1-1 draw against a 10 man Leeds side. The Cottagers – equalising after the visitors lost a man in the last minute – remain five points off the play-offs.
The chances of Huddersfield – who reacted positively to a Newcastle defeat – securing an automatic promotion place were kept a live after a 1-0 win over Aston Villa – who saw their three game winning run ended – at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Ipswich and Wolves played out a fifth successive draw in this fixture. This 0-0 draw – as Town drew for a sixth time in seven games – was enough to keep Wolves a point above Bristol City and outside of the relegation zone.
A late Nottingham Forest comeback – the second coming deep in added time – came too late as Brentford ran out 3-2 winners at the City Ground. The Bees’ third win in a four game unbeaten run took them up to 12th with Forest staying in 18th five points above the bottom three.
QPR’s 2-1 win over Barnsley was a fourth in five to virtually secure another season of Championship football for the R’s. The Tykes – previously pushing for a play-off place – remain in the top half of the table but have now lost three of the last four.
The gap to safety was opened to 19 points after Rotherham’s ninth defeat in 10. Brighton’s first win in three – after back-to-back defeats – kept Albion six points clear of third placed Huddersfield and close the gap on leaders Newcastle to three points.
Sheffield Wednesday were held to a 1-1 draw by Burton, which didn’t prove too costly to their play-off bid as the Owls’ nearest rivals Fulham failed to win as well. Burton’s fourth straight draw kept them three points above the relegation zone.
