The Premier League season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Manchester City got things underway on Saturday lunchtime with a 5-0 win over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium – maintaining City’s unbeaten Premier League start but emphatically ending the Reds’.
Goals also flowed at the Emirates Stadium, Amex Stadium and Goodison Park with three goals scored in wins for Arsenal, Brighton – a first in the Premier League – and Tottenham against Bournemouth, West Brom – the only one of the three to get on the scoresheet – and Everton, respectively.
Chelsea’s resurgence, after a surprising opening day defeat, continued when the champions won at Chelsea – Watford’s undefeated run went on with a win at Southampton also taking the Hornets up to fourth.
Despite losing a 100% record, when held at Stoke in the Saturday evening game at the Bet365 Stadium, Manchester United retained top spot on goal difference ahead of ‘noisy neighbours’ Man City.
On Sunday, Burnley piled more pressure on Frank De Boer when recording a 1-0 win over second bottom Crystal Palace, who remain pointless. The same scoreline was recorded by Newcastle at Swansea to make it successive victories for the Toon.
