Christian Walton’s been linked with a host of League 1 and League 2 clubs, as of yet despite increasing reports the Brighton ‘keeper hasn’t sealed a loan move anywhere.

A certainty, wherever he does go, is Walton WILL go out on loan this season!

There’s absolutely no doubting the England U20 ‘keepers ability, he’s set for a long and successful career – hopefully with Albion, but at this stage of his career his development needs regular first-team football.

If the Argus reports from the weekend are right this will see him join Bury?

Crawley looked a possible destination, they were keen to sign him, but a chance to play at a higher level in League 1 with a Bury side looking to build on last seasons promotion, carrying forward momentum, could be a good move with a deal ‘close to completion’ by all accounts.

No move has been finalised as yet but once it is, be this for him to go to Gigg Lane or otherwise, current Albion no.1 David Stockdale, also talking in another Argus article has backed Walton to benefit from a loan.

Stockdale knows from experience what loans as a young ‘keeper can do and feel’s he’ll excel in doing this and will eventually become the no.1 at the Amex Stadium and remain that way for ‘a long time to come,’ saying.

‘There’s nothing better than getting experience. You don’t realise until you’re older how valuable that will be.

‘It’s tough to throw goalkeepers in so early to a high level. It’s just different things really, the pace of the game, things like that, so it’s a sensible option and I’ve got no doubt he will be in the Brighton goal for a long time to come.’

The biggest problem I fear Albion might have with Walton and the 19-year-old having a long-term future with the club is our ability to fend off the interest in him!

We’ve managed this so far but as he develops it’ll become increasingly more difficult to do so.
