Young goalkeeper Christian Walton has extended his emergency loan spell out with Southend United for a further week.

The 21 year old stopper headed out to Southend on March 31 on an emergency basis as they were independently certified as having not fit professional goalkeepers on their books owing to injuries.

Having made his debut for Phil Brown’s side in the three nil victory over Oldham Athletic last Saturday, he also featured in their one nil defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

With loans like this, EFL rules state that a loan extension of seven days can be applied for, and Southend duly applied for that and saw it granted ahead of the weekend’s action.

Therefore Walton remained with them for the two one defeat to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

His loan spell with them now expires on Friday April 14.
