Finally the Albion have managed to get the experienced left back they have been searching for by bringing in on loan Stephen Ward from Wolves.

The 27 year old Republic of Ireland international joined Wolves in 2007 from Irish side Bohemians who he made 93 appearances for scoring 26 goals. His Wolves record is 218 appearances with 9 goals and for Ireland 18 appearances with 2 goals.

I think it’s safe to assume that Wolves are trying to cut their wage bill having been relegated to League 1 last season as Ward is a fine player and will strengthen the Albion defence considerably.

Ward can play in a variety of positions, having started out as attacking midfielder, he played left back, midfield and even as a striker when at Wolves.

We are starting to build a side made up of Spanish/Irish descent and the combination of skill and grit could well be the turning point for the Seagulls.

One thing for sure, it’s nice to have a Ward in the Albion side again, I will be waiting for him to knock in those 32 goals!!
