After 12 years as chairman of Brighton and Hove Albion, Dick Knight has stepped down as chairman.

He will be replaced by 39 year old Tony Bloom,a local businessman who deals in property, finance and sports betting and will be a major investor in the club.

His family has a long running association with the club. Tony is the grandson of Harry Bloom who was the Seagulls vice chairman back in the late 70’s when the club reached the heady heights of the top flight. He is also the nephew of current director Ray Bloom .

The new chairmans funding will cover the cost of the new stadium at Falmer and should provide manager Russell Slade a healthy budget to work with as the Sussex side look to get back into the championship.

Knight will become life president at the club.

In a time of economic instability, this is great news for Albion fans.
