Albion are reportedly keeping tabs on Chelsea prospect Nathan Ake with a view to a season-long loan move.

A versatile and technically-gifted Dutch youth international, 18-year-old Ake acquired a taste for first team football at Stamford Bridge last season, starting a handful of cup games under Rafa Benitez and impressing in the holding midfield role.

It would appear Chelsea are keen to fast track his development by sending him out on loan to the Championship for regular competitive football and, according to a fellow writer over at Vital Chelsea, Albion could be his destination.

His notable dreadlock appearance has drawn comparisons with ex-Chelsea midfielder and Dutch compatriot Ruud Gullit, however his style differs in that Ake has a more conservative focus; capable of operating in both central defence and defensive midfield.

Whilst the managerial uncertainty at Albion might raise doubts over who would currently sanction such a transfer, the departures of Dean Hammond and Gary Dicker this summer have certainly left the side short of one or two extra bodies in midfield.
