Brighton chairman Dick Knight and manager Dean Wilkins have shown, by the recent signings of Nicky Forster and Andrew Whing that they are serious in their quest for promotion in 2007/2008.
Forester is a proven goal scorer and his goals will be vital in a team that have recently been struggling to find the net and Whing will add some much needed stability to the defence.
There is also the possibility of more new arrivals, Darren Currie and Leon Constantine are just a couple of the names who have been linked with a move to the club, either would be a huge asset.
In addition to the new faces, there is also the return of long term injury casualties Paul Reid, Adam Hinshelwood and Charlie Oatway to look forward to and on top of that, talented youngsters such as Dean Cox, Joel Lynch, Sam Rents and Jake Robinson have now all gained plenty of first team experience and will be better equipped for life in League 1.
The squad is quite large so there should be plenty of competition for starting places and this will hopefully bring out the best in the players.
Oh and then there`s the Falmer decision, which, if positive will surely create a feel-good atmosphere at the club for the new season.
The team have nothing to lose, after last seasons shortcomings bookmakers have already made the Seagulls one of the favourites for relegation. However, it is quite clear that the management and players do no share this opinion and are determined to prove them wrong.
Brighton are showing ambition and could well surprise quite a few people next season.
Supporters should not get carried away but there are plenty of reasons why we should be optimistic for the future.
