Russell Slade has been awarded a two-year contract for guiding Brighton to League One safety.

Slade was appointed temporary Brighton manager until the end of the season in March, and after securing survival he’s been handed the job on a permanent basis, something that chairman Dick Knight said was earned: ‘Russell has done a fantastic job, pulling off a great escape and I know all Albion fans will agree that he has earned his new contract,’ Knight told the official website. ‘He deserves this opportunity to lead us forward.

‘His managerial track record and reputation were excellent before he arrived here at Albion and he has significantly enhanced that reputation further.’

Slade’s first duty as the new manager will be to meet with the clubs out of contract players to discuss their futures.

Slade is taking a short break and then he will break the news to the players when he returns: ‘The players are off on an end-of-season break, and I am going away with my family for a week’s holiday,’ Slade told the official website. ‘I will use the week to reflect on the last eight weeks and come to some tough decisions.

‘I will be back in Brighton next week to finalise the retained list and begin our preparations for next season.’

Do you think that Russell Slade’s appointment permanently is the right one?
