Newport County Association F.C. are a reformation (1989) of Newport County, originally formed in 1912 and a founder member of the new English third division in 1920.They appear to be undecided on their nickname, being know as the ‘the Exiles’, the ‘Ironsides’ and the ‘Port’ (mmmm, that one took some thinking time

In 1980 Newport won the Welsh Cup and thus played in the Uefa Cup Winners Cup in 1981, somehow defying the odds and reaching the quarter finals losing to then East German side F.C.Carl Zeiss Jena 3-2.
Managed by former Tottenham defender Justin Edinburgh, they regain Football League status again last season by being promoted from the Football Conference Premier League

They play their home games at Rodney Parade which has a capacity of just over 7,000. The last time the Albion played Newport, saw a 4-0 win away in 1921! with the last cup meeting being in the F.A. Cup in 1948 resulting in a 3-1 to the ‘Port’

Lets hope that come that August Tuesday evening we can avenge that cup reversal, we have long memories us Brighton fans.
