In our latest fans poll here on Vital Brighton, we asked a very debatable question on attendances at Withdean that has got everyone talking.

With our midweek home game against Walsall attracting a lowest ever league crowd at Withdean of 4,700, there are many potential reasons why the crowds aren’t coming despite us being in a rich run of form in these last few months.

Here are the results which asked you to pick out what was the key reason in your view regarding low attendances:

Q: What is the main reason why our home attendances are so low?

1. Ticket prices too high – 43%
2. Poor view and facilities – 29%
3. Cost of living is too high in general – 20%
4. Neutral fans aren’t interested in watching us – 8%

In my view I think a lot of it is down to the cost of living in general. Lets face it, its not cheap to live in Britain and rising costs because of interest rates etc. However, a lot of these are linked in many ways – for example the less disposable income you have the less likely you are able to afford tickets for the football week in week out as they are too much money.

It’s a tough question and a tough task for Dick Knight and Ken Brown to sort out but one that needs to be done quick as we all want one thing and that is a large and noisy home support at Withdean.
