BRIGHTON Manager Gus Poyet has won his first award in the Brighton hot seat. Poyet was named Npower League One Manager of the month for September, pipping Exeter manager Paul Tisdale, and Saturday’s opposite number, Eddie Howe.

Poyet guided The Seagulls to the top of League One, winning four of the five games they played. Wins against MK Dons, Plymouth, Oldham and Brentford, together with a 0-0 draw away at Carlisle were enough to clinch Poyet the accolade.

In that time, The Seagulls conceeded just one goal, scoring seven themselves. The 13 point haul will stand Poyet in good shape having just signed a new four year deal at the club.

Brighton keeper, Casper Ankergren also picked up the prize for Player of the Month for his 4 clean sheets in his five appearances during September. Ankergren was nominated alongside Davies of Notts County, Vincelot of Dagenham and Jones of Rochdale.
