Brighton and Hove Albion climbed out of the League 1 relegation zone for the first time since February after another superb away win.

The 2-1 success against Bristol Rovers at The Memorial Stadium in front of a crowd of 6193 was the Albions 3rd successive victory and sees them rise to 19th in the table.

With two games left to play, it now looks likely that one more victory could secure the Seagulls 3rd tier status. A remarkable achievement when you consider that they were 7 points adrift of safety very recently.

It was the Pirates who put Albion under the sword early on though when the free scoring Ricky Lambert netted after 28 minutes…but the Brighton fought back strongly and soon rocked the Rovers boat when Lloyd Owusu equalised just before half time. Just seven minutes after the re-start the Seagulls sunk the Pirates boat and stole all the points when substitute Calvin Andrew fired home a bullet like header from a pinpoint Gary Hart cross. Despite a couple of later scares, the Albion held out for a treasured victory.

There are many reasons for the upturn in form but full credit must go to manager Russell Slade for turning a team which had become accustomed to losing into a team of gritty winners. Credit must also go to the players for having the determination to prove the doubters wrong and the fans who have magnificently stuck by their team in times of adversity.

Of course, the team are not safe yet but if they carry on playing as they have been in the last few matches then they should be fine.
