Hoskins scored 20 goals for relegated League One side Bristol Rovers this season and is expected to command a fee of at least £500,000. The Seagulls had a higher offer accepted in March but Rovers’ failure to sign Rory Fallon from Plymouth Argyle meant the deal was cancelled.

It is understood that Brighton remain in pole position to land the striker who can also play out wide and a deal could now be very much back on, with Poyet needing to add to his striking options before they kick off in the Championship next season.

A bid in excess of £500,000 for Watford winger Buckley has been rejected by the Hornets although it is expected Albion will return with an improved bid in the near future. Seagulls footballing director John Stephenson signed Buckley for Watford from Rochdale and it is likely that Albion see the qualities that he can add to the side.
