Tim Sherwood has been installed as the early bookies favourite for the Brighton managers job following Oscar’s resignation on Monday.
For a second summer running we’re seeking a new manager, hardly something that we want to keep having to do but if Oscar’s heart or head (or both) are no longer in it then a parting is the right thing.
Sherwood is still officially the Tottenham manager but is expected to be replaced.
Former Albion midfielder Warren Aspinall has told the Argus that if Tottenham do sack Sherwood then he’s the right man to continue the work started under Gus Poyet and continued under Oscar last season with him ‘the man to get us promoted’.
I’d agree with Aspinall that as attractive as the football was to watch under both Poyet and Oscar that ‘Plan B’ wasn’t ever really in place, I think this was highlighted most of all over the two legged play off with Derby. Oscar went in with the wrong tactics and couldn’t change it, I’m taking nothing away from Derby mind.
How much of a ‘Plan B’ Sherwood has I don’t know, only Spurs fans could answer.
We need someone who is going to stay at the Amex for a prolonged period now though, someone using us as a ‘stop gap’ isn’t ideal but someone that has been in the game for a while and has the hunger to succeed is needed. Sherwood’s first team managerial experience is limited but he seems to have many qualities we would like.
If he became available I’d not be against this.
Perhaps the main problem is that with job at West Bromwich Albion and his former club Norwich also available, and jobs he’s been linked with, should Tottenham part with him what he prefer those options.
Malky Mackay is another I’d be interested in, but he too is being linked with both clubs.
