The Championship season continued with the latest round of matches played over the weekend.
Newcastle remain at the summit with Brighton behind them in second. Blackburn’s win couldn’t take them out of the bottom three where they remain with Wigan and cut adrift Rotherham.

Leeds v Newcastle 13:15
Playing on Friday night, kicking-off the return after the final international break of the year, Brighton had a chance to take a joint-share of the lead. A draw with Aston Villa saw the lead cut to two-points on Newcastle but Albion had to settle for a one-one draw at the Amex Stadium.
This saw Reading have the chance to close the gap on the automatic promotion places, doing just that. A three-nil win over Burton saw the Royals’ home form go on and move them up to third ahead of Huddersfield who were beaten at Cardiff. A five-goal thriller at the Cardiff City Stadium saw the Bluebirds back to winning ways with a three-two win.
Another five-goal match came at Ewood Park when Blackburn recorded an important three-two win over Brentford, which saw the Bees denied the chance to move back into play-off contention. Rovers remain in the bottom three though as did Wigan (below them) after a nil-nil draw at Barnsley.
Birmingham did move up into the play-off places when a battle between two sides looking for this was won by the Blues, winning one-nil at St Andrew’s against Bristol City whereas Derby were convincing in a three-nil win over Rotherham at the iPro Stadium. The Millers’ struggles continuing and relegation looking a safe bet even at this stage.
Paul Lambert’s first-match as Wolves boss ended with a point taken from the trip to Preston, neither side could make the breakthrough in a nil-nil draw at Deepdale but Ian Holloway’s return to QPR saw him mark his first match as the returning boss with three-points from a two-one win over Norwich at Loftus Road.
Nottingham Forest rounded off the action in the evening kick-off with a very important three-points to move Forest away from relegation trouble and ease the tension around the club when a trip to Portman Road ended in a two-nil win over Ipswich.
The only match on Sunday saw Newcastle go to Elland Road to face Leeds for the first time in a league match in well over a decade. A two-nil win saw Rafa Benitez extend then lead at the top of the table to five-points.
