Will we will miss the boat again?

As June rapidly approaches, the club have still yet to confirm who will be retained from the 9 who’s current deals expire on June 30th. There has also been little to no rumour or speculation involving new players.

To most fans, a worrying feeling of deja vu is descending upon them. Some supporters are understandably worried of a repeat of the fiasco of the 2002 pre season.

In case you have blotted it from your mind, the club remained managerless for 11 weeks until Martin Hinshelwood’s appointment on July 10th. No new faces arrived until late August and especially in the case of Paul Kitson, appeared nothing more than panic buys which offered us little. In hinsight, many supporters have pointed to this lack of preperation as one of the key factors for our relegation.

After all, as former manager Micky Adams frequently said, ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’.

If signings are to be thin on the ground this summer, which looks likely, then once again we will be looking to the excellent youth system to produce another Adam Virgo or Dean Hammond.

Pre Season seems to be an incredibly frustrating time for any Albion fan, the ‘ones that get away’ so to speak. Every time a club signs a player the inevitable ‘he could do a job’ is heard and we rue missing out on yet another player.

When and if any transfer news breaks, you’ll hear about it here on BHA Vital Football. Don’t hold your breathe though, I suspect we will be doing an awful lot of waiting!
